Charmaine Chaudry: Impressions of Home, 14 - 21 August 2024

In her exhibition, Impressions of Home, Charmaine Chaudry invited us to explore the concept of home beyond mere bricks and mortar. For Charmaine, home is not just a physical space but a rich tapestry of belonging and community that transcends geographical boundaries.

Charmaine’s work has been deeply influenced by her dual heritage—English and Pakistani. This unique blend of backgrounds has been pivotal in shaping her artistic vision. Having lived in various parts of the UK, from Staffordshire to London, Oxford, and Liverpool, Charmaine has continually redefined her sense of home in each new environment.

At the same time, she often finds herself drawn to an idealised vision of her Pakistani roots and the nostalgic charm of the English countryside.

Her paintings have traversed a wide array of locales, including Morocco, Turkey, India, Pakistan, and the UK.

Through these vibrant depictions, Charmaine bridges diverse cultures and languages, offering viewers a chance to connect with intimate moments and dream-like vistas that resonate on a universal level.

This summer, our gallery space was able to immerse viewers into Charmaine’s evocative world. Her work captures the essence of home in all its forms, inviting you to experience a poignant journey through her eyes.
